kybarsfang This is an amazing set of tracks, full of emotion. Getting to hear these “missing” tracks is like stepping back into time, witnessing history, a magic mirror into what was before it became what it could be. Absolutely fantastic work. Favorite track: Gun.

Lucy's hiding I was a teenage werewolf taken Taken by your scene Lucy's hiding Don't be afraid of what you are If it was only a dream And if I fall, fall down And if I sound, a little too loud Decision's made, are you coming round? It's difficult times I've found Lucy's frightened I was a teenage werewolf taken Taken by your scene Lucy's fighting Opened a vein and paralysed But it was only a dream And if I fall, fall down And if I sound, a little too proud Decision's made, you're coming round It's difficult times I've found I've found Lucy's quiet I was a teenage werewolf taken Taken by your scene Lucy's defiant Opened a vein and paralysed And it was always a dream And if I fall, fall down And if I sound, a little too loud Decision's made, are you coming round? It's difficult times I've found, I've found (Instrumental break) And if I fall, fall down And if I stand, a little too proud Decision's made, are you coming round? It's difficult times I've found, I've found

I've been inside your mind and I've held you I understand what it is to want you and I've seen Jupiter flicker in the sky Oh, see I've loved you all of my life He can sense it, he can sense it, she knows She can sense it, she can sense it, she knows There are things I've felt that I've never told you I understand what it is to need you and I'll let it flicker somewhere in the sky Oh, see I've hated you all of my life He can sense it, he can sense it, she knows She can sense it, she can sense it, she knows She can sense it, she can sense it, he knows He can sense it, he can sense it, he knows I don't want to be with you tonight god let me be with you tonight I don't want to be with you tonight god I gotta be with you tonight 1234 There are things I've felt that I can't disguise No I won't count how many times I've been drawn into your eyes and so, if I act like the victim am I living a lie? Oh, see I've loved you all of my life He can sense it, he can sense it, she knows She can sense it, she can sense it, she knows You can sense it, you can sense it, I know I know I know You can sense it, you can sense it, I know Yeah I know

INDT 03:37
I could sleep all night and work everyday Leave decision time till nothing's happening Like a parasite who got no square I could make you wait all night and then take you away from here Never been with you, it's been a little while ah ah First I'm mad at you, then I catch your smile oh no I should give an inch then take a mile I should get myself off the defence and just relax a little while But you're my friend, you're my escape If I could do this over again, would I leave things this way? Ah this is what you need, believe or deceive if you want to Ah Leave your friends to be right with you AH AH OH OH AH AH OH OH AH AH OH OH AH AH OH OH Never been with you, it's been a little while ah ah First I'm mad at you, then I catch your smile oh no Never been with you, it's been a little while ah ah ah ah Full of attitude, then I catch your smile oh no It's not decision time, your decision's of no consequence It's all "what's that rhyme?" You go away then bring it back again I think you're out of line You get me up off of my electric fence It's not decision time You go away then bring it back bring it back bring it back again

Gun 04:36
Is what you said, what you feel? Is the honesty enough to close that hole, at your heels? Would you tell me if it all gets too much? Do you take what you want? If it all gets too much would you tell me what's at stake? Was it wrong? Is it me that holds the gun? When you smile is there nothing wrong? If I asked, could you steal the sun? Are you sure there's nothing wrong? Do you play, with your hands in the air? Surrender's not quite my idea of a plan And from where I stand you're shouting too much Is the fear at your feet From standing in the shadows of the things you cannot speak? Is it me that holds the gun? When you smile is there nothing wrong? If I asked, could you steal the sun? Are you sure that there's nothing wrong? (Instrumental break) Is it me that holds the gun? When you smile is there nothing wrong? If I asked, could you steal the sun? Are you sure that there's nothing wrong? It's you and me It's you and me It's you and me It's you and me It's you and me It's you and me It's you and me It's you and me 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Stop

about

When Faker released our first EP, Sound Out Loud in 2001, I was working the nightshift at a refuge in Sydney.
Teenage Werewolf was added to High Rotation pretty much immediately, and played for 9 months straight on Triple J. We couldn’t afford to tour more than once or twice during this time. Touring for us meant playing the Hopetoun Hotel (3 blocks from the refuge), then borrowing a car, renting a trailer for our bass amp, and driving to Melbourne for the weekend. Making it back in one piece so we wouldn’t get fired from our various day jobs.
The best of that time happened in rehearsal rooms, twice a week, as we tried to figure out who and what we were, fluctuating from 3, to 4, to 5 piece, and back again. During this time, while our song seemed to be waking people up in the mornings on Australian radio, and guiding them home from work each day, I was checking in on residents at the refuge, ensuring that they didn’t overdose through the night, having conversations about their lives, and in-between these moments I’d sneak my guitar into work, to set about writing the next Faker song.
From an archival perspective, Sound Out Loud, is a great representation of what we wanted to be. Authentic, brash, dreamy. Good songs built from real experiences, with a little bit of imagination woven through it. In our personal lives we weren’t there yet, but in our music we could be. Teenage Werewolf, somebody once pointed out to me is a song I must have unconsciously written about coming out, and they we right, to some degree. I Know / She Knows was about struggling with the way people do and don’t communicate what they know about attraction, and each other. INDT (short for, ‘it’s not decision time’) was my first ADHD soother, a song about forgetting the pressure and getting on with it. Gun was the song I wrote after the end of my first relationship with another guy, trying to make sense of what it was, and what had happened.
The ‘Out Loud’ in Sound Out Loud was about music, it was about coming out (which I’d done personally, but not publicly), more than that it was about finding out who and what we could be. The ‘Sound’ is what you hear. ‘And if I sound / a little too loud / decisions made / you’re coming ‘round.’
We printed somewhere between 500-1000 copies on CD at the time. People seemed to know and love the radio song, but they didn’t know who we were right away. The ones who found us though, they held onto us. This EP hasn’t been available anywhere since it came out in 2001. I’m making it available this year, because it was always meant to be heard… You can’t name something Sound Out Loud and keep it quiet forever.
